August 22, 2017-Fall is nearly here, and you’ve stocked up on school supplies. But there’s one valuable item you may have overlooked: a library card! Your library card opens the door to a lifetime of learning, as well as to creative, entertaining, and informative programming and resources.

National Library Card Sign-Up Month takes place each September, and the Hammond Public Library is celebrating with a special promotion. From Sept. 1-30, new patrons getting their first Hammond Public Library card will be entered into a drawing to win a gift basket. There are separate baskets for youth, teens, and adults, so everyone in the family who gets a card is eligible. They also receive a bookmark and an “I Love My Library” bag, while supplies last.

Your library card allows you to visit us to check out books, magazines, movies and music; to use one of our public computers; to reserve our study or meeting rooms; and to download books, comics, movies and music for reading or viewing at home or on a mobile device. In addition, a Hammond Public Library provides access to databases
such as Chilton Library (auto repair); Brainfuse (learning and career resources); Mango Languages; Signing Savvy sign language videos; ArtistWorks music and art instructional videos, and many more. Most of these resources can be accessed remotely.

To find out if you’re eligible for a Hammond Public Library card, please see our website at
www.hammond.lib.in.us/circulation.html or call our Circulation Desk at (219) 931-5100. The library is at 564 State Street, at the intersection of Sibley and Sohl. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thanks to the Friends of the Library for their support of this promotion.
