Portage Man Faces Charges After Crashing into 3 Valparaiso Police Cars

August 21, 2017-Valparaiso Police were conducting a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning when a man who police say was intoxicated struck 3 police vehicles. According to the statement, no officers were hurt in the incident. “On Sunday morning (2:23 a.m.) Officer Watson, Officer Cowser and Sgt. Simpson were conducting a traffic stop, with a vehicle, occupied with numerous individuals at State Highway 130 and Froberg Rd when a vehicle struck all three officer’s vehicle. The impact caused one police car to rollover and come to rest in a nearby ditch, another police vehicle sustained serious damage and a third received moderate damage. The vehicle that initiated the crash also rolled over and sustained serious damage” according to the report.

The driver of the vehicle which struck the police cars, David Jackowski, 25 yrs old of Portage, had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Valparaiso Police say that Jackowski had a strong odor of alcohol and admitted to police he had been drinking. Charges against Jackowski are pending.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
