Indiana DNR Investigating After Boat Explodes at Hammond Marina

August 15, 2017-Emergency crews were summoned to the Hammond Marina early this morning after a boat exploded. According to a social media post from the group Hammond Marina Boaters, “At around 3:45 am a call to 911 was made from a boater on G Dock and our security. Security and some boaters were able to help containing the flames to a small area by wetting the docks and the vessels near the incident. G-23 had exploded and caught on fire and caught the boat next to it in G-25. Boats on either side of these slips and in front had sustained some damage.” Indiana Department of Natural Resources Officers are investigating the incident according to a release from ICO Terri Millefoglie. Millefoglie stated “Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fire that involved multiple boats at Hammond Marina. Two boats were a total loss as a result of an explosion related to the fire.” No injuries were reported according to ICO Millefoglie.

Multiple agencies including Hammond Police Department, Hammond Fire Department, United States Coast Guard, Hammond Port Authority, Hammond Marina, and Tow Boat US all assisted at the scene.
