17 Year Old Gary Defendant Faces Murder Charges in Cold Case

Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter credited the diligence of Hobart Detective Sgt. Jeremy Ogden and the Lake County Metro Homicide Unit for bringing this case to a conclusion

July 10, 2017-Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter Announced today that murder, rape and robbery charges have been filed against Calvin Demetrius Poston, age 17 of Gary. Poston, who was 15 at the time of the murder, was waived to adult court today after being waived by the juvenile court. According to Court documents, Poston is charged with the murder, robbery and rape of Carolyn Rimpson on September 29, 2015 and the forcible rape of an unidentified victim on November 29, 2016. According to a report from Lake County Coroner received at the time, the body of 61 year old Carolyn Rimpson was found in Gary on September 30, 2015. The Coroner noted that Carolyn had suffered blunt force trauma and classified the case as a homcide. Carolyn had been missing for a week at the time her body was found just two blocks from her Gary home. Poston is charged with murder, murder in the perpetration of a robbery, rape, criminal confinement, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury in the Rimpson case. Poston also faces rape and battery resulting in serious bodily injury to an endangered adult in the 2016 case involving an unidentified victim.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
