3 Hammond Officers Recognized for Role in Bringing Down “Large Criminal Organization”

June 22, 2017-Three Hammond police officers were recently selected as officers of the month by their peers in the Hammond Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #51. According to Michael Elkmann of the FOP, Sgt. M. Darnell, Sgt. E. Gonzalez, and Cpl. S. Hinson “went above and beyond their call and honorably represented the Hammond Police Department and Hammond FOP #51.” The trio are honored for their work with federal officials in a multi-state investigation that dismantled and charged subjects who took part in a large criminal organization. A letter received from a federal law enforcement agent in charge indicated these officers, “played a significant role during their investigation, sacrificing extensive personal time, and leaving no stone unturned in helping to perfect these cases for
federal prosecution.” Additionally, the agent stated, “Their outstanding and invaluable investigative contributions over a three month period resulted in the dismantling of the organization.” Elkmann went on to say ” Due to their extraordinary efforts, the communities within the City of Hammond and beyond are safer due to their dedication and hard work.”
