Shots Fired During Hammond Police Chase

High speed chase from Illinois through the heart of Hammond reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour according to officer in pursuit.

June 11, 2017-A Hammond officer on routine patrol saw three cars travelling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on 165th Street early this morning according to information derived from the scanner. At 1:07 a.m. an officer can be heard saying “I’ve got three cars racing each other eastbound on [1]65th.” Moments later the officer reports that shots have been fired. “I think I got people shooting at each other” the officer reported. “I just crossed over Columbia, they are approaching the Boulevard about 120 mph. . . .”Officers later reported that the occupants of one vehicle had attempted to carjack the other in Illinois. “The two cars that I have here with me, they attempted to steal one of their vehicles. A weapon was displayed and one shot was fired” the officer reported to dispatch. The subjects took off running at 165th Street and California Avenue in Hammond’s Hessville section. Officers blanketed the area and pursued the subjects but it is unclear at this point if any arrests were made.
