Governor headed to Dumezich residence to pick up checks less than two weeks after visiting to sign bills that transfer power and money from cities and towns to Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority
May 27, 2017-Less than two weeks after ceremoniously signing House Bill 1144 that advances the Slager/Visclosky Regional Transformation Plan, Governor Eric Holcomb will head over to the home of a Board Member of Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana to pick up checks. House Bill 1144 transfers tax dollars to the un-elected Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority and, now, those who stand to benefit the most from that transfer of money will be writing checks to the Governor of Indiana.
According to documents forwarded to the Gazette, the May 31 event will be hosted by Dan and Dana Dumezich. Dana Dumezich is a Republican appointee to the Lake County Board of Elections and Voter Registration. Dan Dumezich is on the Board of Directors of the tax exempt Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc- the corporation that owns a large number of parcels near the south terminus of the proposed West Lake Extension of the South Shore commuter rail. Donald Fesko, Chair of the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. Under House Bill 1144, the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) can create transit development districts near train stations. Once a district is created, the RDA can take all property tax and income tax increases within the district for 30 years. Spending by the RDA has little oversight and is not audited by the Indiana State Board of Accounts.
