UPDATE: 1 Killed, 4 Transported After Early Morning Prompt Ambulance Bus Collision

May 16, 2017-An early morning collision between a bus operated by Prompt Ambulance Service and a truck resulted in one death and four people being transported to a local hospital. According to Lt. Dawn Westerfield, Officers were called to west 4th Avenue and Rutledge Streets at 5:29 a.m. according to the statement. “Upon officers arrival it was discovered that a semi tractor trailer and a Prompt transport vehicle had been in a collision. One of the passengers in the transport van was declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroner’s office.”

Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has issued a report identifying the deceased passenger as 57 year old Kathy Flowers of the 2200 block of Hendrix Street in Gary. Lt. Westerfiled confirmed that there were a total of three passengers on the bus, plus the driver. The semi was occupied solely by the driver who has not yet been identified. All involved were transported to a local hospital for treatment and their conditions are unknown at this time.

Lake County Sheriff’s Police are performing accident reconstruction to determine the cause of the crash. It is not known at this time if any citations were issued.
