May 16, 2017-Superintendent Brian Smith of the School Town of Highland confirmed that all Highland schools were placed on “lock out” this morning. According to Superintendent Smith, the school town was notified by Highland Police of a domestic situation near Farmer and 41st and took the action as a precautionary measure to protect students. During a lock out, no one is allowed in or out of the schools but all other school functions proceed as normal according to Superintendent Smith. “Parents were notified” Superintendent Smith stated indicating the School Town used the school messenger system as well as social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.
