May 11, 2017-The Gary Police Department has announced that they will be participating in the national “click it or ticket” campaign. The annual enforcement campaign is sponsored by the National Highway Safety Committee and provides funding for increased law enforcement to ensure that motorists are wearing seat belts and that children are in proper safety seats. The campaign begins on Friday May 12, 2017 and runs through June 4, 2017. There will be a special enforcement on Monday May 22, 2017. The campaign is designed to remind drivers to use their seat belts. According to the statement from Gary police Lt. Dawn Westerfield, “By increasing passenger restraint usage 1% we can save 10 lives.” Let Westerfield asks that motorists remember to buckle up every time and make sure any children in your vehicle are in the appropriate child restraint.
