Munster Police say Saturday Chase Started with Stolen BMW

May 1, 2017-Munster Police say an accident and subsequent foot chase that created a stir on social media over the weekend started with a report of a stolen BMW at the Munster Marathon, 9400 Calumet Avenue. According to Lt. Ed Strbjak of the Munster Police Department, “The Munster Police Department was dispatched to the area of Columbia and Camellia reference to two subjects pulling on car door handles in an attempt to take items. While enroute to this call we received a call of an auto theft from Munster Marathon in the 9400 block of Calumet. The vehicle taken was a Silver BMW, a second vehicle a grey Chevy Malibu was the vehicle the suspects were seen getting out of and back into.” The report continues “both vehicles were pursued by Munster Police North on Columbia to Ridge Road and then West on Ridge Road. The Silver BMW that was stolen from the 9400 Block of Calumet was involved in an accident with injuries at Ridge and Hohman.”

Police say two juveniles from Chicago were apprehended at a nearby cemetery, behind the church at Hohman and Ridge. Police then began an attempt to apprehend the suspects in the grey Chevrolet Malibu. “The Grey Chevy Malibu was pursued west into Lansing Il. . The Grey Chevy Malibu went North on Lange from Ridge.” According to Lt. Strbjak, two suspects “bailed” from the vehicle at Lange and Ridge in Lansing. A 21 year old from Chicago was apprehended and taken into custody by the Lansing, IL police. It was later determined that the Chevy Malibu had also been stolen out of Chicago. Two juvenile suspects are currently being held at the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center according to the report.
