Dawn Westerfield of the Gary Police Department says the Gary Police Department is investigating as well:Click here for reuse options!On April 13, 2017 approximately 3:46 pm the Gary Police Department received a call for service in the area of West 35th Avenue and Chase Street for what was believed to be a body in the marsh area. Upon arrival officers located a male in the marsh area west of Chase Street. The male was recovered with the assistance of the Gary Fire Department and declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroner's office.Coroner Frey says the body is that of an African-American male with a mustache and facial hair on his chin. Age is not known and the man's height is 5'8", weight 200 lbs. No apparent injuries were noted and the manner of death is unknown at this time.
