Arrest Made in Government Center Bomb Threat

Sheriff John Buncich stated, “I want to warn anyone who thinks about making a phone
call like this that they will be tracked down and detained. We take these matters very seriously
and we will not allow staff or visitors to the Government Center to be threatened.”

April 10, 2017-A Gary man has been arrested and charged with making a bomb threat via telephone to the Lake County Government Center. According to a release from Lake County Sheriff John Buncich, “On Thursday 04/06/2017 at 5:41 PM, Lake County E911 Center
received a call of a possible bomb threat to the Lake County Government Center complex. The
E911 Center notified Lake County Police of the reported incident of the possible bomb threat.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to the complex and cleared the buildings.
On Friday, April 7, 2017 at approximately 2:30 PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Department
officers arrested Nicholas Veto Sebolt, 54 of Gary, on charges of false reporting (Level 6
Felony). Sebolt was arrested at his residence on the 600 block of W. 41st Avenue.”

Sebolt has denied making the phone call according to Sheriff Buncich. Sheriff Buncich stated “Lake County Sheriff’s Department detectives, using technology available to law enforcement as well as other investigatory techniques, believe that Nicholas Sebolt did in fact make the threatening phone call to the E911 Center on April 6th.”

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
