Man Shot in Hand Trying to Fend Off Armed Robber

April 3, 2017-Gary Police say a 22 year old resident was shot in the hand while fighting off an attempted armed robber on Saturday. According to the report from Lt. Thomas Pawlak, “On April 1, 2017 at approximately 5:15 pm the Gary Police Department received a call
for service at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in reference to a 22 yr old Gary man shot once in the left hand. Gary Officers responded and spoke with the victim who stated he was in the area of Ridge Rd. and Van Buren St. when a unknown male attempted to rob him in the alley. Victim stated he fought with the individual and during the struggle he was shot in the hand.” The victim could not provide a description to police.
