March 26, 2017-The Gazette has confirmed that Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt of the Gary Community School Corporation has been replaced by Interim Superintendent Claudia Moore. A letter was sent to principals and administrators within the School Corporation on Friday announcing that Dr. Pruitt would be on medical leave, effective immediately. Sources confirm that she has no plans to return as Superintendent.

The move leaves the fate of the Gary Community School Corporation up in the air as a hearing is scheduled before the Indiana Distressed Unit Appeals Board (DUAB) on Tuesday, March 28 where the District will once again plead for funds to pay its employees through the end of the year. On March 10, the DUAB rejected the School Corporation’s request for $14M, instead providing a “loan” of $3,750,000. That amount comprises payroll for one month as well us other monthly bills. Immediately before going to the DUAB, Dr. Pruitt tried to ram through a crony contract with politically connected Attorney Clorius Lay. Immediately after the DUAB meeting, Dr. Pruitt tried to ram through a contract with connected friend Charmella Greer.

Dr. Pruitt came to the district in 2012 from Proviso Township High Schools District 209 in Park Forest, Illinois. That school district also had serious financial problems and is still overseen by a Financial Oversight Panel.

Beginning early last week, the Gazette began receiving information that the Superintendent may be leaving. LinkedIn sent a notice that Dr. Cheryl Pruitt had updated her information to state she was now President and CEO of Title Solutions, LLC. According to LinkedIn, Dr. Pruitt was appointed CEO of Title Solutions, LLC in May, 2016. A search of records maintained by the Indiana Secretary of State, Title Solutions LLC was formed by Pruitt’s daughter, Christian Trigg in May, 2016.

A school board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night where the medical leave is expected to be announced.
