West Calumet Residents Need Your Help After Lead Crisis-Please Write or Call Officials

Please consider writing or calling the elected and appointed officials on the list below and tell them West Calumet residents deserve more time to locate suitable housing:

March 21, 2017-Residents affected by high levels of lead in the ground at West Calumet Housing Project in East Chicago are asking all residents for a little help. East Chicago activists have sent the following notice to community leaders, church groups and others in the area. Now they want your help.

YOUR IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION IS NEEDED IN SUPPORT OF THE REMAINING WEST CALUMET 81 FAMILIES. LET US RALLY IN THIS MANNER SO A FORCED RELOCATION IS NOT MADE A REALITY AS ALREADY SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 31, 2017 – APRIL 01, 2017! NO CHILDREN / NOR RESIDENTS / NOR FAMILIES SHOULD UNDERGO THIS WITHOUT AMPLE RELOCATION ASSISTANCE IN TIME.

PLEASE READ BELOW AND HELP BY RALLYING FOR THEM. YOUR VOICE DOES COUNT AND CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. REACH OUT TO YOUR PERSONAL CONTACTS AND ASK OF THEM TO DO THE SAME. THIS IS A MUCH NEEDED HUMANITARIAN EFFORT WE SHOULD PARTAKE TO FULFILL WHAT’S BEST FOR THE REMAINING 81 FAMILIES STILL LIVING IN WEST CALUMET.
• Attached please a copy of sample drafted form letter you can use that had been prepared and approved for this HUMANITARIAN campaign to delay this forced relocation for the remaining 81 families / residents living in West Calumet Housing Complex.

Please Note: Going forward, please use the drafted letter and contact list form to reach out to all your contacts and organizations that you personally know so they too support and submit a letter on behalf of the 81 families still living in West Calumet Housing Complex.
