March 17, 2017-Munster EMS personnel were dispatched to 36th Street and Columbia Avenue at 7:13 a.m. today. Dispatch advised that the incident occurred near the entrance to the high school and involved a child that was struck by a bus and pinned beneath it. According to a preliminary report from Lt. Strbjak of the Munster Police Department, an adolescent male was struck by a bus. The student was transported to a local hospital with undetermined injuries at this time. The identity of the juvenile patient was not released and a full report is expected soon.
UPDATE: Munster Police have issued a statement regarding the incident. According to Lt. Strbjak, the Munster police were called to 35th and Columbia at approximately 7:12 a.m. for a report of a school bus vs. pedestrian accident. Munster Police, Fire Department, Prompt Ambulance and School Town of Munster personnel all were dispatched to the scene. “Investigation revealed a 17 year old male victim was located under the school bus. he victim was transported by ambulance to Methodist Northlake Hospital in Gary for treatment of his injuries. The victim was speaking to first responders at the scene. The severity of his injuries are unknown at this time. The accident continues to be investigated by the Munster Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
