February 19, 2017-Cedar Lake Police say a 21 year old man hid in the back of his father’s truck and attacked him with a buck knife. The father reported that the son had been acting erratically earlier in the evening and he took a sword from him at their home. The father then got in his truck to travel to a nearby relative’s home according to Deputy Chief Brittingham. “Ian had jumped into the back of the truck without his father knowing. When they arrived at the relative’s house Ian jumped out and attacked his father stabbing him four times in the back with a buck knife. Ian’s father was able to get into the relative’s home and lock the door at which time the relatives called 911. Ian’s father was transported to a local hospital and is in fair condition.”

Ian Watt, age 21 of Cedar Lake, was transported to the Lake County Jail where he faces charges of ggravated battery (level 3 Felony), battery resulting in serious bodily injury (level 5 Felony), and battery by means of a deadly weapon (level 5 Felony).

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A criminal charge is not evidence of guilt.
