Gary Man Shot to Death in Front of His Home Overnight

February 10, 2017-A Gary man was fatally shot in the front yard of his home in the 300 block of McKinley Street just after midnight. According to a release from Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey, coroner investigators were called to the 300 block of McKinley Street at 2:20 a.m. Upon arrival investigators pronounced an unidentified male dead at the scene. The male lived at the address according to the report. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Gary Police have not yet issued a statement. According to information obtained from the scanner, Gary police were called to the scene upon a report of a man down in the front yard of a home in the 300 block of McKinley. Officers were able to determine that a known suspect had fled the scene in a Chevrolet Camaro. An alert was sent to other departments to be on the lookout for the vehicle. It is not known at this time if any arrests have been made.

UPDATE: Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey has issued an updated report identifying the victim.
