February 7, 2017-The Lake County Government Center in Crown Point has been evacuated after a report of a bomb. Emergency crews are on scene and employees have been sent home. Police and fire personnel are working to clear the large complex at this time and no additional information is available. The Gazette began received messages from our sources inside the government center approximately 20 minutes ago. Since that time, we have spoken to several employees who were told to go home for the day.
Sheriff John Buncich released the following statement regarding the incident:
“On today’s date at approximately 12:00 PM, Sheriff John Buncich was notified that the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office had received a telephone call during which an unnamed individual made a threat concerning the Lake County Government Center.
As a precautionary measure, Sheriff Buncich, in coordination with the Lake County Commissioners, ordered all civilian personnel evacuate the Lake County Government Center until Lake County Sheriff’s Police complete a search of the buildings and grounds. The Lake County Government Center will remain closed until further notice as a result of this threat.
