January 9, 2017-Hammond Police report that two Illinois residents were hospitalized early this morning after an incident that involved a shooting and an automobile accident. According to the statement from Lt. Richard Hoyda of the Hammond Police Department, a 9-1-1 caller reported that a silver Ford Fusion struck a light pole in the 2700 block of 165th Street at approximately 1:54 a.m. today. “A short time later officers were sent to Flick’s Tap, 6400 Kennedy Avenue regarding a shooting” the report continues. Police determined that an altercation ensued at Flick’s tap between two couples and “a group of other patrons inside of the bar” according to Lt. Hoyda. Lt. Hoyda says one or more patrons followed the couple from the bar and began shooting into the Ford Fusion. “It is believed that a suspect (or suspects) followed one of the couples out of the establishment and began shooting at them as they attempted to leave in their Ford Fusion” according to the report. Two victims were struck by gunfire, a 22 year old woman from Olympia Fields, IL and a 27 year old male victim from Chicago, IL. Police say that it is believed the Ford Fusion struck the light pole as the driver was attempting to flee the gunfire. Both victims were transported by personal vehicle to the hospital. Both victims received serious but non-life threatening injuries according Police. Officers are seeking information from the public regarding the incident.
